HOLLYM TODAY

At present there are about 400 inhabitants in the village, of which 60 are children. The village has changed tremendously in the last 20 – 30 thirty years. It once had a strong farming influence with the majority of villagers connected in some way to farming but this is not the case today. There used to be 12 milking herds in the village but there is not one left.

Many villagers work in Hull and commute each day and others work in Withernsea.

There are still quite a few businesses in the village. For example, there are two garden centres, a garage repairing cars, a joiners, makers of garden ornaments, accountants, a pheasantry, to name but a few.

New buildings are kept to a minimum because of strict building regulations and the village’s wide local plan.

There are two local sports clubs based at The Plough – Withernsea Rugby Club, and a cricket club, both are all well supported.

Buses take and return the children to the Withernsea schools as Hollym village school was closed in 1963.

The village no longer has a shop of any kind but we are fortunate enough to still have a Post Office, based at Crossroads Garden Centre.

There is local transport to Withernsea and Hull run by EYMS and buses run every hour throughout the day.
