In May 1995 Hollym residents commemorated the 50th Anniversary of VE VJ day on 8th May. Mr. Roland Phillips, one of the village's oldest residents, was invited to plant a cherry tree in the Pinfold. The tree had been donated by Viv and Les Holwell of Hollym Cottage Industries. A spade was given by Richard Wilde of Waxholme (and this was later auctioned). The Rev. Ian Ellery led a short service at 11 am when the whole Nation remembered. Approximately 50 residents came together to remember those people who had given their lives so freely in the search for peace. A minute’s silence was held at the end of the service and it was a very poignant and memorable occasion.
After the service sherry and wine were served the Parish Councillors, followed by coffee at The Plough, kindly offered by Pat and Ian Robinson.
