At the end of the centenary celebrations it was
agreed to hold the remaining funds and put them toward the village's
Millennium celebrations. In 1998 villagers were asked to attend a
meeting at The Plough to form a committee to fund raise in order that we
could celebrate the forthcoming Millennium. All the usual fundraising
events took place as well as some applications for grant aid.
On the 28th August 2000 a Fun Day for the whole
village was
arranged and it was a marvelous afternoon. Everything was free. There
were plenty of side stalls, e.g. plate smashing, coconut shy, rat
catcher, milk a cow, balls in a bucket, a bouncy castle, and tugs of war for
everyone to try their luck and all prizes had been bought by the
committee. Beef burgers and hot dogs were also supplied free of charge.
All children, 16 and under, received a millennium commemorative mug.
A newsletter had been printed and circulated each
month to all households to keep everyone informed of what was happening.
A time capsule has been buried in the Pinfold and a
plaque marks the area. Kay Greaves officiated at this small service,
prior to the start of the Fun Day.
With the funds, which had been raised, a Millennium window was commissioned and installed in St. Nicholas Church in 2001.
